Abstract

The "Freudian slip" is not the only impact that Sigmund Freud has left on society, rather his theories have disseminated into a multitude of facets both within psychology and the modern world. This essay reviews the history of Freud and how his life and work had such a significant impact and remain so influential. Due to the merits of Freud's impact on modern applied psychology, this essay argues that the employment of Freud's theories and treatment models in practical fields like clinical psychology remains justified despite pressures from modern academic psychologists to distance from his theories and focus on neurobiology within diagnostics and treatment.
