Abstract

Montessori education, specialized education characterized by multi age classrooms, student-chosen work and hands-on learning, improves social and behavioural skills. At a young age, Montessori children integrate justice and fairness to solve interpersonal issues. The collaborative classroom style promotes positive thinking regarding their peers. Montessori children respond more positively to questions regarding their peers than children attending public, private, or charter schools. Improved social and behavioural skills counter the belief that the home environment dominates childhood social and behavioural development. Positive interpersonal interactions among peers enhances skill development in children. Montessori schooling prioritizes developing children’s social and behavioral skills needed to function well in society.
