Abstract

The present study examines the relationship between parenting styles and juvenile delinquency through a systematic review of the existing literature. The main objective of the study was to identify the parenting style most highly correlated with juvenile delinquency, along with the parenting style that significantly protects against it. Major findings reveal that authoritative parenting is an optimal parenting style that is associated with the lowest levels of delinquency, in contrast with authoritarian and neglectful parenting, which has been consistently found to be a predictor of delinquency and linked with the highest levels of offending.
