Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Children
Abstract
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can arise following exposure to a traumatic event, resulting in symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and intrusive thoughts (Loeb et al., 2011). These symptoms can significantly impair an individual's quality of life, affecting personal relationships and work performance. According to the DSM-5-TR, PTSD is diagnosed based on specific criteria related to traumatic experiences, which may include war, accidents, abuse, or other violent acts. Early childhood exposure to trauma can disrupt normal brain development and increase vulnerability to long-term psychological damage. This early interference often leads to persistent physical and emotional difficulties that continue into adulthood.
