About the Journal

Focus and Scope:
McMaster Medical Illustration serves as a creative and collaborative platform to explore and appreciate scientific art. Our journal is focused on publishing high-quality student works that utilize medical illustration to make complex medical and scientific concepts accessible to a broad audience. We feature detailed illustrative pieces, thought-provoking articles on biomedical illustration and biocommunication, and interviews with both students and professionals in the field.

Mission:
Our mission is threefold:

  1. To promote the art of medical and scientific illustration.

  2. To provide a platform for students to showcase their artistic and literary talents.

  3. To bridge the gap between art and medicine to foster innovation and education.

History:
The journal was founded in 2025 to bring together the talented community of writers and artists at McMaster University, creating the first dedicated space to celebrate and advance the centuries-old practice of medical illustration through a modern publication.

Archiving:
We are committed to the long-term preservation of our content. This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration.
