Focus and Scope
The McMaster Journal of Communication is an interdisciplinary journal whose aim is to address questions of new media, digital culture, language and social life, mass communication, media studies and professional communication in new and innovative ways.
The McMaster Journal of Communication encourages high-quality, original student work, including critical and creative approaches to conventional and new media. The Journal aims to reflect the diversity of communication studies and multimedia, contributing to a vibrant exchange of ideas.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
The McMaster Journal of Communication is an online, student run, peer-reviewed journal administered by the Faculty of Humanities at McMaster University. The Journal was established in 2004 as a forum to showcase outstanding student work.
With the launch of the Communication and New Media graduate program in 2009 and the addition of the McMaster-Syracuse Master of Communications Management program to the Faculty of Humanities in 2011, the goal of the Journal has expanded to reflect this new breadth by expanding its mandate to encourage high-quality submissions from graduate students, as well as maintaining its traditional base of strength by publishing excellent senior undergraduate work. With the inclusion of graduate-level work, the Journal hopes to continue to provide a more expansive space for students to share their work, fostering innovative and challenging ideas in the field of communication studies and multimedia.
