Policies

Submission:

Papers in any area of philosophy are welcome for submission. All submissions must have been written while still an undergraduate, in MLA format, no longer than 5000 words, and must not include the author’s name anywhere on the document. A separate cover letter must also accompany the paper, including the title of the paper, the author’s name and university affiliation, the author’s mailing address and telephone number, as well as an abstract of 100 to 150 words in length.

Please email your submission and the separate cover letter as Microsoft Word documents toperceptiajournal@gmail.com . All questions about the journal should be sent to this email address as well.

The deadline for submissions for the inaugural 2010 issue is February 15th, 2011.

Review process:

Once the deadline for submissions has passed, the editor selects those submissions that demonstrate substantial merit. These papers are each given to two reviewers, who may be faculty members or graduate students in the Department of Philosophy at McMaster University. In some cases, a reviewer may be an upper-level undergraduate student who is majoring in philosophy or in a subject relevant to the paper in question. The author’s name is not given to the reviewers.

Upon completion of the review process, the editor will contact the authors of those submissions accepted for publication. The editor will provide these authors with any comments written by the reviewers, as well as the editor’s own comments. The authors of accepted submissions will revise their papers accordingly and then have them published online.

Affiliation with the Department of Philosophy at McMaster University:

Perceptia is a product of the McMaster University Philosopher’s Society. While faculty members and graduate students of the Department of Philosophy at McMaster University assist in reviewing submissions, the Society bears the final responsibility for the production and quality of the journal.
