Focus and Scope
The iScientist serves as a repository for excellent work produced by students and alumni of the Integrated Science (iSci) program at McMaster University. We seek to publish original research, reviews, and short commentaries produced by students in the course of their undergraduate education. Our focus, like that of Integrated Science itself, is broad and interdisciplinary. We aim to publish work at the boundaries between the traditional scientific disciplines or work that examines issues from a number of scientific perspectives. At this time, publication in The iScientist is restricted to students within the Integrated Science program at McMaster University and alumni of the program.
Peer Review Process
All research and review articles that appear on The iScientist will have been peer reviewed by three reviewers, all of whom are students of the Integrated Science program or partner programs like the Natural Sciences program in Leicester, UK. Reviewers are asked to look at the originality of the work produced, the rigorousness of the methods used and the validity of the conclusions reached. Editors will also briefly review the work for appropriateness for publication on The iScientist. In certain cases, submitted papers may be forwarded to an appropriate faculty member or instructor for additional input after the initial peer review. Reviewers are asked to complete their reviews in two weeks time.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
The iScientist aims to reflect the accomplishments of undergraduate students in the Integrated Science Program at McMaster University. We recognize that the work published is subject to constraints and omissions as our contributors are not experts in their field. As such, we invite readers to submit their comments and feedback in order to further our mutual knowledge of the topic at hand. However, we ask that your comments be constructive in nature. If you have any further questions and concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us
The iScientist could not be made possible without the help and support of the Integrated Science Program at McMaster University. The faculty members, administration staff, and students provides the work needed to make this publication a reality, and we are truly grateful for their continuous work!
Sources of Support
We would like to extend our thanks to the Science Initiative Fund of the McMaster Science Society for their generous donation of funds to support The iScientist. The publication of physical copies of the journal, as well as our ability to host workshops to teach McMaster undergraduate students about the values and techniques of publishing and peer review, would not be possible without their generosity.
The iScientist was founded in 2013 by the students and faculty of the Integrated Science program at McMaster University. The founding Editor-in-Chief of The iScientist was Andrew Colgoni, Services Librarian and iCore member in the Integrated Science Program at McMaster University.
Since then, we have been continuously endeavoring to showcase the excellent work of students of the Integrated Science Program at McMaster University.
