Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
- The submission file is Microsoft Word (.docx) file format.
- The submission adheres to the McMaster Journal of Disabilities 2025 Submission Guidelines.
- The article is formatted within the respective submission template. The text is single-spaced; uses 10-point, Montserrat font; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The Publication Agreement has been completed and submitted through the Microsoft Form.
Short Pieces
Opinion Articles
Opinion articles allow for reflections on disability-related issues. These may include lived experiences with disability or responses to current discussions/trends in the field. Submissions should present a clear argument and draw on evidence where applicable.
Policy Analysis Articles
Policy analysis articles examine disability-related policies, laws, or institutional practices. Authors should assess a policy’s strengths and weaknesses, analyze its impact on individuals and communities, and propose evidence-based recommendations. Submissions should connect policy discussions to real-world applications and disability rights/advocacy.
Long Pieces
Research Articles
Research articles consist of original studies that contribute knowledge to the field of disabilities. These may include experimental, observational, qualitative, or mixed-methods research.
Review Articles
Review articles provide a comprehensive analysis of existing research on a disability-related topic. These may be systematic, scoping, or narrative reviews. Authors should assess current findings, identify gaps in knowledge, and propose future research directions.
Copyright Notice
All submissions must be original, and authors are expected to obtain legal permission for any aspect of the submission that is not their own. Authors are required to grant the McMaster Journal of Disabilities the exclusive right of first publication for their submitted work. Authors will retain the copyright to their paper under a Creative Commons Attribution License.
