As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all images are submitted as separate files.
  • The submission adheres to all of the relevant requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines (see below).

Accepted entry formats include but are not limited to art, photography, poetry and prose. Limit of two pieces per author.

We reserve the right to decline entries which do not align with the spirit of our publication and/or the collective values and beliefs of McMaster University and the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

Written Submissions 

Word Count: 1500 words max.  File Format: Microsoft Word (or equivalent text file).

If your submission includes possibly sensitive subject matter, please include trigger warning at the top of your submission.

Please be advised that authors who do not comment on editors revisions within the specified timeframe will have their work published as is with copyediting only. By submitting your work you are agreeing to have it published.

Visual Submissions

Entries should be at least 600 ppi resolution. Accepted formats include .psd, .Ai, .jpg, .tiff, .pdf

Please maintain a reasonable file size. Visuals that are overtly graphic or offensive may not be accepted for publication.
