At SciWISE, we believe that science is not just a collection of data and discoveries, it is also a deeply human pursuit, rich with emotion, imagination, and meaning.

That is why this issue starts by featuring Mehdi A. Zahiri and Ahmed Raza’s opinion piece on mussel adhesive being used in dentistry, followed by a thought-provoking poem by Deema Abdel Hafeez on autoimmune diseases. We then travel north with Xin Ke Law-Gallagher, winner of the 10th McMaster Child Health Conference, as he examines hearing loss screening practices in remote Nunavut communities. Research by Tehani Blais, Monalisa Bonilla, Maya Elfizy, and Leen Ramahi brings us into the world of science communication, testing the effectiveness of lay summaries. This is followed by a beautiful world tapestry of innovation & discovery drawn by Angela Liu. For the next piece, Lubna Ismail sits down with Dr. Katie Mattina, an emergency physician, to discuss emergency medicine and its ties to public health. Then for quick reads, we included a funny comic by Rida Rana, as well as a beautiful abstract by Elsa Saji on yogurt and gut health. Finally, Parneet Deo closes the issue with a thoughtful piece on how early infant communication can shape future success.
