A Survey of Energy Efficient Micro-Ring Resonator Designs for Intra-Data Center Optical Interconnects
Abstract
Detailed specifications for a particular 10 km regime of optical transmission are conrmed in order to meet the
current 100 GB/s (4-channel) aggregate speed of an electrical interconnect. While a good baseline minimum
proving the economical viability, it is found to be inadequate to describe the capabilities of a fully integrated
ecosystem of optical interconnects. Free of the current electrical infrastructure optical transceivers require
standardization in optical modulation schemes, as well as per channel data rates and consistent port counts
for each regime of transmission distance.
